State Emergency Management Program Receives Conditional Accreditation
Utah One of Three States to Receive Such a Designation
Utah officials have been notified that the state's emergency management program, coordinated by the Department of Public Safety's Division of Homeland
Security, has been awarded a "conditional accreditation" from the Emergency Management Accreditation Program (EMAP).
Utah is one of only three state emergency management programs to receive a conditional accreditation from the EMAP Commission. Utah voluntarily participated
in the EMAP accreditation process. A team of out - of - state assessors reviewed Utah's emergency management program during a weeklong visit to the state
back in September 2005.
"This conditional accreditation shows that our state continues to make great strides in our preparations for natural and man - made disasters in Utah,"
Governor Jon Huntsman, Jr. said. "State government will continue to improve its preparedness capabilities as we prepare for full accreditation."
The state now has nine months to attain compliance before its program is reviewed for full accreditation. Only seven states and the District of Columbia
have received full accreditation. EMAP examines emergency management programs for compliance with standards in 15 different areas, including:
- Program Management
- Laws and Authorities
- Hazard Identification and Risk Assessment
- Hazard Mitigation
- Resource Management
- Mutual Aid
- Planning
- Direction, Control and Coordination
- Communications and Warning
- Operations and Procedures
- Logistics and Facilities
- Training
- Exercises, Evaluations and Corrective Actions
- Crisis Communication, Public Education and Information
- Finance and Administration
